Knockhill – 28th/29th September 2013
Lewis set about breaking records again at the weekend becoming the youngest ever Scottish Champion in the Lightweight class, breaking the Knockhill lap record along the way.
He was allowed special dispensation from the SACU at the start of the season to race, despite being 13 years old for the first round.
Lewis is also racing in the Thundersport GB series on the Ian Newton supplied IN Competition Aprilia RRV450GP bike. He was kindly given a pass from Ian Newton to miss the Mallory Park round this weekend knowing Lewis had one hand on the Championship.
It was by no means an easy championship to win. Having missed round two at Knockhill back in April due to his commitments to IN Competition and the Thundersport series and coming back from Injury more recently, where he broke two ribs and punctured his lung in a collision at Anglesey.
Lewis had to fight hard right to the end of the championship with Craig Shirlaw, his closest rival throughout the year leaving only ten points between them.
Lewis had this to say about the weekend “We had a really good weekend at Knockhill with some really good races with Craig. We managed to lift the title and get the Knockhill lap record so we are really happy! I came second in the Scottish championship races and I won two of the Knockhill club races and came second in the third race, but me and Craig were really pushing and had some awesome races! We all can’t wait till Silverstone this weekend for the BSB with RCD Motorsport and I have also been picked for the Red Bull Rookies, so we are away to Spain in 2 weeks time. Thanks to Ian Newton of IN Competition, Prentice Coaches and everybody for their help and support”.
Lewis will take part in the Monster Energy Motostar British Championship this weekend at Silverstone. Racing once again for RCD Motorsport after taking a fantastic second for the team in the 125cc class last time out at Assen.
