Silverstone BSB – 5th/6th October 2013

LEWIS was back in action at the weekend racing at Silverstone in the Monster Energy Motostar British Championship for RCD Motorsport.

Still on a high from his second position at Assen and clinching the Scottish Lightweight Championship, the weekend started off the way he had left off at Assen finishing fifth in a wet FP1, and seventh in FP2. Disaster struck however near the end of the session when Lewis dropped the bike hurting his hand in the fall.

During qualifying one Lewis did not feel comfortable on the bike and pulled in to make some changes. After leaving the pits he only managed to complete one lap before the engine seized.

In the second qualifying session he had the same feeling with the bike and went straight back into the pits. The decision was made to sit out the rest of the session and find the problem.

Lewis had this to say about the race day “Mark and Nick striped the engine and they found that the clutch was slipping, so they put a new clutch in it for Sunday. In morning warm up I was 19th but the bike still wasn’t handling, so we made a lot of changes for the race. What was annoying is that I hadn’t qualified for the race so I had to start from 26th on the grid. In the race I managed to get up to 19th but the bike still wasn’t really handling, but we were happy that I managed to get that far up.”

Lewis will fight for a place in the Redbull Rookies in the coming weeks, flying back for the last round of the Monster Energy Motostar Championship at Brands Hatch.
